Outdoor Exhibitions : Gasparilla and Mayfair

Mayfair by the Lake, Lakeland, Florida

Florida's system of outdoor art shows brings 300 artists, the best of 1500 applicants to its parks for three days of each such show. It is the opportunity to show sculpture in a very well visited and beautiful nature setting in Lakeland on Lake Morton, Friday - Sunday evening. 

"The Mommy for the Mommy"

Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, large sculptures (year 2) - the one on the right a "Mommy for the Mommy" into which mothers can crawl to be safely cocooned with lullaby music softly playing and a blue sky with white clouds.

In Tampa, Florida, the Gasparilla Festival runs one month and the festival of the Arts is a three-day component towards the end of this celebration. Susanne Nielsen was chosen to participate among the 300 artists in the Curtis Hixon Park along the Hillsborough River. She won an award of merit making her eligible to show her work in three consecutive years following this first event and award. She showed much larger sculptures (see above) than in her first year showing at this exhibition.
